Jango (One Piece) Introduction
English Name: Jango Japanese Name: ジャンゴ Other Names: Hypnotist Birthday: December 28 Age: 27→29 Voiced By: Kazuki Yao (Japan) First Appears In: One Piece Gender: Male Height: 207 cm Debuted: on chapter 25 in the anime and episode 9 in the series Position: Marine Seaman Third Class Jango, from the phenomenally popular Japanese series One Piece, was formerly the vice-captain of the Black Cat Pirates. After Captain Kuro's plot was disrupted, he was accepted as a subordinate by Marine Captain Hina. Jango is a master hypnotist capable of turning his hypnotic targets into a state of frenzy. However, he often ends up hypnotizing himself as well and takes more pride in his dancing skills (worthy of a contest with Michael Jackson). After Kuro's plot was foiled, he was left forgotten in the woods while Usopp fled from his village. Eiichiro Oda devoted a 37-chapter cover series to detail Jango's subsequent story, a generous treatment adding layers to his unique character. In the Adventures of the Dancing Black Cat Pirate cover series, Jango escapes from Syrup Village after his defeat, only to become a wanted man in a nearby town. He disguises himself to attend a dance competition, where he meets the equally talented Marine Captain "Iron Fist" Fullbody. The two become good friends by bonding over their shared passion for dance, but their respective identities - Jango as a pirate, Fullbody as a marine - complicate the relationship. Upon meeting the stunning Marine beauty Hina, Jango decides to hypnotize Fullbody into forgetting about him and join Hina's regiment as Third Class privates, thus embarking on a new dancing chapter in their life. Even after joining the Marines, Jango's unique sense of style remains unchanged - his distinctive hat, unconventional trousers, and the signature moves of a dance king. His path crosses yet again with familiar faces, this time the dog-hat wearing (Capp) and two individuals in training (Bellumemb and Coby) - it seems like the world of One Piece is small indeed. Jango made more appearances in the Alabasta Arc and Marine Ford Arc of One Piece, having been summoned to the battlefield alongside Fullbody during the War of the Best. He is overcome by Luffy's Conqueror's Haki later. Before becoming a pirate, Jango was a wandering dancer drifting in obscurity until a nap in a field causes a striped mushroom to grow on his chin. He eats it out of hunger and, despite its repulsiveness, discovers his hypnotic ability. Before Luffy arrives in Syrup Village, Jango assists Captain Kuro in faking his death and subsequently becomes the Black Cat Pirates' captain. Three years later, Jango goes to Syrup Village to assist Captain Kuro in getting Kaya's wealth but they are defeated by the Straw Hat Pirates in the end. The Dancing Django's Paradise cover series starts with him being knocked out by the Usopp Pirates in Syrup Village and realizing that he's been targeted by the Marines. He disguises himself and wins a dance competition at Mirrorball Island and even befriends Marine Captain "Iron Fist" Fullbody. However, his cover is blown, and he ends up helping his friend Fullbody fight against the Tulip Pirates. After the "Mirrorball Island Incident", Jango is arrested by Fullbody and put on trial at the Marine Headquarters and sentenced to hanging. Fullbody interrupts the court with an emotional dance causing the judge to acquit Jango and demote Fullbody. Two years later, Jango attempts to hypnotize Fullbody to forget their friendship, but both become infatuated with Marine Officer Black Cage Hina as soon as they spot her. The two of them join Hina's squad as Seaman Third Class. During the battle at Marineford against the Whitebeard Pirates and the New World Pirates, Jango falls unconscious due to the impact of Luffy's Conqueror's Haki.
