Naofumi Iwatani, a sophomore in college, stumbles upon a book titled "The Record of the Four Holy Weapons" at his local public library. As he turns to a blank page, he inexplicably finds himself summoned to another world, where he is hailed as the "Hero of the Shield". In this alien realm where shields are seen as symbols of malevolence, Naofumi is falsely accused of a violent crime by a princess, which plummets him into an abyss of distrust and resentment towards everyone.
