Is Gojo Satoru dead in this series?

Gojo Satoru breathes life into the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. Being the strongest sorcerer, the show usually revolves around him, and his lively nature and larger-than-life personality make him a fan favorite. In shows like Jujutsu Kaisen, where death lurks around every corner and Curses hunt normal humans and Sorcerers, witnessing the deaths of our favorite characters is inevitable. However, seeing our beloved Gojo Satoru in such a miserable state would be the last thing any JJK fan would ever wish for.

In the latest chapter of the "Jujutsu Kaisen" manga, there has been a shocking development in the plot as Gojo Satoru engages in an earth-shattering battle with Yuta Okkotsu and is cut in half at the waist by Yuta. While Gojo has had instances of apparent death followed by a turnaround before, this time, the situation seems a bit different. The manga even includes a line that says, "There isn't even time to mourn Gojo Satoru," suggesting that this time, Gojo's fate might truly be sealed.

And as we all know, Gojo Satoru is undoubtedly one of the most popular characters in "Jujutsu Kaisen," with a massive fan following and a plethora of related fan works. Because of this, when the latest chapter depicted Gojo Satoru being cut in half at the waist, fans of Gojo were absolutely shocked. Especially since he seemed to have the upper hand in the battle just moments before. This turn of events quickly became a trending topic on social media in Japan, China, Europe, the United States, and other regions.

Among them, most fans are bitterly criticizing the author Gege Akutami, calling him inconsiderate, and some have even compared him unfavorably to Hajime Isayama, the author of "Attack on Titan." Despite the fact that Gojo Satoru's character brought immense popularity to the series, his death was portrayed in such a gruesome manner. What's more, it's not just that Gojo Satoru met his end in battle; the most outrageous part is that there wasn't even a proper farewell for him. This treatment is truly disappointing.

To be honest, regardless of the character's popularity or the progression of the plot, Gojo Satoru's exit feels very abrupt. Firstly, Gojo Satoru's popularity is comparable to that of Kakashi from "Naruto." Back when Masashi Kishimoto killed off Kakashi during Pain's invasion of Konoha, he immediately faced the wrath of fans. As a result, he had no choice but to resurrect Kakashi. With such a precedent, Gege Akutami's decision to depict Gojo Satoru's death feels incredibly bold.

Secondly, in the battle between Gojo Satoru and Yuta Okkotsu, Gojo was essentially in a dominant position throughout. The situation seemed overwhelmingly in his favor, and yet, there was a shocking turnaround at the end. Doesn't this feel like underestimating the intelligence of the readers? I believe that Gege Akutami's design for this battle has some issues, to say the least. It gives off a somewhat illogical vibe, so it's not surprising that readers are in an uproar.

I don't know why, but it seems like current shonen manga tend to enjoy killing off popular characters. "Jujutsu Kaisen" did something similar, where almost all the Jujutsu Sorcerer leaders met their demise. I suspect it might be because the trend nowadays leans towards the "Bad End" aesthetic. The more tragic and unfortunate a character's fate, the higher the engagement and discussion, especially when it involves beloved characters. If you were to kill off some random background character, readers wouldn't even bat an eye, but when it's a popular character, it generates maximum buzz.

Of course, we can't rule out the possibility that Gege Akutami might bring Gojo Satoru back to life later, as such situations have occurred before. Finally, what are your thoughts on Gojo Satoru being cut in half in the latest chapter of "Jujutsu Kaisen"? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section below.
